AI in Physics education

Thoughtful use of AI.

Support for students and teachers in using AI to explore, prepare and question—while keeping subject knowledge, judgement and critical thinking central.

For students

Use AI without giving up the thinking.

AI can support exploration, explanation and questioning. The important work remains understanding the Physics, checking claims and developing independent judgement.

For teachers

Use AI thoughtfully in preparation and support.

AI may be useful when preparing lessons and materials, and when helping students learn how to use it responsibly in their own work.

A developing area

Technology should support better Physics learning.

  • Use AI to explore and question, not to bypass understanding
  • Keep evidence, reasoning and subject knowledge central
  • Develop judgement about when AI is useful—and when it is not

Assessment marking

AI can review; professional judgement decides.

For schools assessment work, each script is marked by Iain first. AI may then be used as a second reviewer to check the application of the mark scheme, identify possible inconsistencies or overlooked credit, and support analysis across the class.

AI does not determine the final mark. Iain reviews any discrepancies and remains responsible for every final marking and feedback decision.

An approved business AI service may be used only after the precise service and relevant data arrangements have been disclosed and agreed with the school. Scripts will not be processed through AI until that arrangement is active.

Read the school data and safeguarding arrangements.
